Here is blog written by our volunteers & program coordinators Michael Reidler & Lani Lichtiger, sharing with friends one special Bet Elazraki afternoon...
Hi Everyone!
Today was truly one of a kind! After having an early start to our day with an 8am breakfast, the kids prepared for the activity: MasterChef!! Each group was given a basket filled with different ingredients plus 40 shekel to use in any way they wished in order to produce the best results for their dish. There were no restrictions for what you were able to make which allowed the activity to be a very creative one! All we were told is that the end result would be judged by Yehuda's wife, Rikki, as well as one of the chefs from the kitchen, and factors such as presentation, taste, cooperativeness, etc would be included.
Each group was given a location to work from and had access to a stove and oven. For 2 hours the kids were chopping, shaping, baking, and most of all cooperating together to have their dish ready to be presented to the judges. This activity did not only take cooking/baking skills, but also creativity and organization. After the time allotted for preparation had passed each group of kids and counselors brought their final dish for presentation into the main lobby. We displayed each dish to all the kids at the home, and had one person from each group come up and explain the symbolism behind their craft. After the presentations were over we all continued to a nice celebratory lunch in honor of good friends visiting from Los Angeles who have been supporting the Home for several years now. For dessert we got to try as many of the desserts as we wished!! (you will see them displayed in the pictures).
This afternoon is relaxed...the boys have been playing basketball in this heat and the girls have been relaxing inside in the A.C. with their girls. It is a big night here for some of us Americans because many of us are going to see the new Harry Potter movie that was released here today.
Hand made by our wondeful children!
